“It’s like a dream,” said Donna Hill when we spoke last week. “…we can hardly believe that we live in a house like this.” Donna and her husband Jerry moved into their very own Southland Log Home in February, and they couldn’t be happier. A dream nearly a decade in the making has finally become a reality for the couple. “We are indebted to everyone at Southland Log Homes,” Donna raved.
Their dream began with a piece of land at High Rock Lake in Lexington, North Carolina. They browsed floor plans and found just what they were looking for when they visited the model in Statesville, North Carolina. This is based on The Rockbridge floorplan, but includes an additional wing to give the plan symmetry. Having seen this model, Donna and Jerry went to work designing their perfect space.
One of the Hill’s favorite features of their new home is all of the natural light the beautiful floor to ceiling windows allow. The front of their home faces High Rock Lake, giving breathtaking views to accompany morning coffee. You can view the lake not only from the Great Room, but also from the open loft on the second floor. Even the dogs enjoy the view the floor-to-ceiling windows allow of the lake. “Our little dogs just love to stand and look out,” said Donna. The additional wing houses the Master Suite with a linen closet so large, Donna says, you can walk around in it. This suite then opens to a private covered porch that connects to the deck on the rear of the home.
Having a lakeside view is perfect … not only for Jerry & Donna, but also for the many passersby on the lake. “People come over by boat and stop just to stare at our new home. It’s so beautiful from the lake,” says Donna with a smile. “It looks like Swiss Chalet.” And the neighbors can’t seem to get enough of the home’s views. Everyone is so amazed at how beautiful a log home really is. No detail was spared or left to chance when Jerry & Donna began to design their home. From handicapped accessible bathrooms and bedrooms to an additional pantry under the stairs , no space is left unused. And Jerry and Donna love the small details that go into their home – the exposed tongue-in-groove ceilings and wood covers for light switches speak to the meticulous design of each floorplan from Southland Log Homes.
“This is the home we plan to stay in for the rest of our lives,” said Donna. They truly couldn’t be happier. And we couldn’t be happier for them. Do you have a dream of owning your own log home? Southland Log Homes can help make your dream come true.
